Abong Rinpoche started his monastic studies at the age of sixteen and became a fully ordained Bhikshu at age twenty.  He was one of the chief disciples of Geshe Lam-rim.

In India he received teachings and guidance from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and entered the prestigious monastic university of Sera Me in southern India.  In 2003 he was examined and awarded the degree of Geshe Lharampa at Bodh Gaya.  In March of 2003 he entered the Monastic University of Gyuto where he undertook further studies in the tantric tradition.

He served as the Spiritual Director of Gyuto Wheel of Dharma Monastery in Minneapolis for 7 years before founding the Joyous Path Buddhist Meditation Center in 2014.
